Various Classes of Aerial Lift

Aerial lifts are a particular type of heavy equipment which enables employees to be raised into the air. These machines can be utilized to carry out repairs and maintenance in places that are high up in the air such as on roofs, near street-light fixtures and power lines. Like nearly all tools, there are various types of aerial lifts that can be utilized to perform various jobs. For the utmost safety, each kind of different type of machine requires proper training and specific certification before utilizing it.

Scissor Lifts

Scissor lifts are often known as Genie lifts. They are considered the most basic type of aerial lift. These lifts are made of a platform which is raised up by means of pneumatic power and are mainly utilized indoors. Normally, scissor lifts are the safest type of lift models. When totally compressed, these scissor lifts are capable of being driven similar to big carts. Generally, when the platform is extended, they can not be driven for safety reasons. Before anybody can utilize these devices, workers need to be licensed as operators.

Boom Lifts

The boom lift is a much more complicated kind of aerial lift machine compared to a scissor lift. The boom lift usually has a much wider base in order to keep the lift anchored. It uses a jointed arm that has a bucket on the end of it. There is a control box located in the bucket which allows the operator to hoist and lower the bucket. Because the arm of the boom is jointed, it could move from side to side as well. The boom lift resembles a tail of a metal scorpion. Traditionally, it is used in construction applications outdoors. The boom lift is considered to be more risky to run compared to scissor lifts, therefore, operators need to be certified separately for these kinds of lifts.
