Classifications of Scissor Lifts & Aerial Lift Platforms
Scissor lifts are made of a series of crisscrossed steel arms, linked up to create an X pattern. When the crisscrossed arms are extended, the platform is raised vertically. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism in order to keep the employees safe and help to secure their tools.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best used for smooth surfaces such as concrete, pavement and hard dirt surfaces. These equipment utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to power the lifting mechanism and move the lift. The operator should move the lift itself if he or she has to travel horizontally, since the lift apparatus just operates the lift vertically.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the same lifting technology as a typical scissor lift. The main difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is specifically designed for surfaces that are not even. These models also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
The telescopic boom lift uses a telescoping beam which elevates both vertically and diagonally. This model has a small work platform which houses controls in order to control the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine in order to power the hydraulics that power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are connected with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a small work platform or a bucket which is equipped with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are available with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast in order to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled equipment. These machines provide an ideal solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is really important to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road use.
