Warehouse Forklift Maintenance
Forklifts require a proper maintenance program to help increase the machine's lifespan and is an important factor in allowing the machinery to function safely and effectively. Completing regular forklift check ups and performing preventive maintenance regularly would help to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the machine.
Daily Checklist
The daily checklist is an invaluable tool in any forklift maintenance program. These checklists would help to document any and all potential issues. They are required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or the OSHA. The daily checklists can also be audited by OSHA during any routine inspection. Operators are required to complete the inspection from the beginning of their shift. If any major problems are found, the forklift can not be utilized until the issue has been fixed.
Maintenance and Safety Go Hand-in-Hand
In the United States, there are around one hundred deaths related to forklift mishaps and statistic show that almost 20,000 people are seriously injured as well. This number represents 54 people per day, 7 days a week, for the whole year. Many of these mishaps could be prevented easily if the forklift had been correctly maintained and serviced. In several circumstances, it might seem like a cost savings to delay or skip routine maintenance, although, these savings will pale in comparison to the cost of one mishap.
Items to be Serviced
The manufacturers owner guidebook will include a recommended maintenance schedule. Schedules would vary depending on each and every manufacturer and every kind of forklift. Every schedule will contain various basic things. For example, in a combustion engine, the oil filters and the engine oil must be replaced sometimes. Hydraulic levels should be checked also. Be sure to check hoses for any indications of cracking. Additional items involve the electrical systems, the brakes and the transmission of the forklift.
